Monday: The Ezra Klein Show / VC Bill Gurley on Transforming Healthcare
We all have a personal anecdote about how broken healthcare is. But not many us can diagnose why. Even fewer can recommend ways to fix it, certainly not Congress. For years, the cost of healthcare has skyrocketed over the rate of inflation. Despite the rise in costs though, service and satisfaction haven’t seemed to improve. There’s a lot of opportunity in broken industries and I’m really curious to see what VC heavyweight Bill Gurley has uncovered in his research. For a transcript of this interview, visit Bill’s blog here.
Tuesday: Tribe of Mentors by Tim Ferriss / Intro and the 11 Questions That Changed My Life
The Tim Ferriss Show has been an incredible resource for years. Tim just launched a new book and podcast called Tribe of Mentors. Checking this out as I’m sure it’ll be a value packed listen. Compared to the original podcast where episodes can range from 1 to 3 hours, Tribe of Mentors is short form for quicker listens.
Wednesday: On Being with Krista Tippett / Ta-Nehisi Coates, Imagining a New America
Not going to lie… I googled “creative podcasts” for ideas on this Wednesday’s listen. I found this article which led me to Krista Tippett.
Her podcast features interviews that “take up the big questions of meaning with scientists and theologians, artists and teachers — some you know and others you’ll love to meet.” Looking through the episode archive there are a bunch that I’ve added to the queue, including an interview with my favorite author Atul Gawande.
For this week, I decided to listen to the interview with Ta-Nehisi Coates. I’ve seen a lot of recommendations for his book Between the World and Me. I haven’t read it yet so I’m looking forward to learning more about him and his ideas in this episode.
Thursday: NPR’s Hidden Brain / An American Secret
This show has a simple tag line: to help curious people understand the world – and themselves. For this episode, the Hidden Brain will explore a national secret: “that from the time Christopher Columbus arrived in the New World until 1900, there were as many as five million Native American people enslaved. We’ll learn about this history, and the psychological forces that kept it unexamined for so long.”
Friday: Gimlet Media’s Reply All / #109 Is Facebook Spying on Me?
Awesome. I’m pumped Reply All is addressing this. Is Facebook using my iPhone to listen to me and target ads based on what I say? Recently, I read Scott Galloway’s book The Four and he mentioned that Facebook does indeed do this. I tried looking up confirmation, but couldn’t find anything definitive. Facebook denies it. Hoping to learn here once and for all.
Happy listening…
